SS Brigade-Fuhrer Fritz Witt gives the Nazi salute to the troops under his command as he inspects them prior to the D-Day landings. Witt had taken command of the Division on 1st July 1943 and had overseen much of their training in anticipation of the Allied invasion of France. He was killed on 14th June when his command post at Venoix was destroyed by Royal Navy gunfire,
