Description

The Hansa was a monoplane variant of the W.12 biplane, however it offered less drag and greater speed than its predecessor due to its monoplane configuration. Designed by Ernst Heinkel the W.29 saw action in the closing months of the war with the German Naval air wing. The Hansa was powered by a 195 HP Benz engine with exhaust stubs above and to the left of the exposed cylinder heads. Its front mounted radiator and louvres in metal panels on the side provided the cooling system. With broad wooden wings covered in lozenge pattern fabric and rigged with several degrees of dihedral rigging, this made it a strong stable fighting platform. The struts between the floats and lower wings provided more than adequate strength and the inverted rudder gave the observer a superb field of fire for his Parabellum machine gun. The pilot was also equipped with 2 forward firing machine guns which made this a deadly fighting machine. The most famous pilot to fly the Hansa was OberLt Friedrich Christiansen who along with his observer manager to significantly damage the British submarine C25, whilst it floated on the surface of the Thames Estuary. Christiansen ended the war with a tally of 13 aircraft brought down and several other shared kills. Our model comes in the marking of Friederich Christiansen and he along with his rear gunner are supplied free with this model. Limited to a total production run of 15 aircraft worldwide with a guide price of $725 which includes free postage worldwide
